ONC permanent task groups to be replaced by time-limited task forces

The Office of the National Coordinator of Health IT is restructuring its committee organizations. The ONC plans to eliminate the Health IT Standards Committee's permanent workgroups and instead assemble "targeted, time-limited" task forces.

In a blog post, Jon White, MD, acting deputy national coordinator, and Steven Posnack, director of the Office of Standards and Technology, wrote the restructuring seeks to change how the agency receives public input.

Current workgroups will remain through June, and in July the HITSC will form task forces on specific topics for which the ONC seeks input.

Dr. White and Mr. Posnack wrote that having a clear and finite time commitment to study an issue will help provide specificity on the scope and nature of a task force's work.

"Additionally, because task forces will be created for a set time period and will be convened for specific issues, we expect the task force structure will allow for greater participation from a diverse mix of stakeholders and a wider range of perspectives," they wrote.
