NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City has officially opened its new space at local technology accelerator Blueprint Health. NYP will maintain the space full-time, and use it to develop relationships with health IT startups in the area and find new technologies to possibly incorporate at NYP.
The first site of NYP's emerging Innovation Center, the space will provide an opportunity for NYP to work closely with promising startups in the accelerator program, providing insight and potential pilot programs to more quickly bring new technologies to market, and to NYP.
"To consistently deliver the best care for our patients, we need to develop forward-thinking technology and build applications that are both sustainable and scalable" said Aurelia Boyer, senior vice president and CIO at NYP, in a news release. "We also know that New York City is a growing hub for technology innovation in healthcare, and collaborating with the companies and technologists from Blueprint Health will help NYP deliver innovation more rapidly and with a fresh, entrepreneurial spirit."
NYP, the first hospital to rent space in the accelerator, is supplying its own servers and computers, and paying a one-time payment of $45,000 for an open innovation space and a conference room, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
Ms. Boyer told the Journal while NYP's main focus is finding new technologies for the hospital, the organization is "open" to helping startups commercialize their products.
