MU2 hospitals report public health measures more often than MU1 hospitals

The rate at which providers electronically reported public health measures significantly increased for hospitals attesting to meaningful use stage 2 compared to hospitals attesting to stage 1.

This is not entirely surprising, as stage 1 hospitals only need to attest to one public health measure, while stage 2 requires reporting on all three measures: electronically reporting vaccination records to public health immunization registries, electronically reporting syndromic surveillance data and electronically submitting laboratory results to local public health agencies.

According to a recent ONC data brief, 72 percent of stage 2 hospitals reported on all applicable public health measures in 2014, while just 5 percent of stage 1 hospitals did the same.

Seventy-three percent of eligible hospitals nationwide that administered vaccinations were capable of electronically reporting to a local public health immunization registry. Eighty-three percent of eligible hospitals at stage 2 reported on the immunization registry measure, compared to 58 percent of stage 1 hospitals.

Nationwide, 48 percent of eligible hospitals providing urgent care services electronically reported syndromic surveillance data to local public health agencies. Broken down by MU attestation, 75 percent of stage 2 hospitals reported on the measure, and 23 percent of stage 1 hospitals reported on the measure.

Forty-seven percent of eligible hospitals were able to electronically submit lab results to local public health agencies. Of stage 2 hospitals, 85 percent reported on the measure, while 14 percent of stage 1 hospitals did the same.
