More Than 85% of Hospitals Are Participating in MU Incentive Programs

More than 85 percent of hospitals are currently participating in the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs, and 75 percent of them have received incentive payments for meaningful use of EHRs as of March 2013, according to a fact sheet released by CMS and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act created the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs in 2009 to promote EHR adoption.

More than 388,000 of the nation's eligible professionals have registered to participate in incentive programs, representing 73 percent of all providers eligible to participate, according to the fact sheet.

HHS has set aggressive goals for 2013 that includes ensuring that 50 percent of eligible physician offices and 80 percent of eligible hospitals receive meaningful use incentive payments for using EHRs by the end of the year.
