Intel announces $7B semiconductor factory at White House event

Intel is planning to invest more than $7 billion into a Chandler, Ariz.-based semiconductor factory, according to an announcement made by President Donald Trump and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich at the White House on Feb. 8.

The semiconductor factory, called Fab 42, will use a 7 nanometer manufacturing process to produce computer chips. These chips will power computers, data centers and sensors, which Intel says will enable artificial intelligence and cloud-connected devices.

Fab 42, which is slated for completion in three to four years, will directly create around 3,000 high-wage Intel jobs such as process engineers, equipment technicians and facilities-support engineers, according to an Intel news release.

"America has a unique combination of talent, a vibrant business environment and access to global markets, which has enabled U.S. companies like Intel to foster economic growth and innovation," Mr. Krzanich said. "Our factories support jobs — high-wage, high-tech manufacturing jobs that are the economic engines of the states where they are located."
