HHS CIO to have more input on HealthCare.gov

HHS CIO Frank Baitman will soon have more governance over the operation of the federal online exchange.

In response to a Government Accountability Office report on HealthCare.gov, HHS agreed that the CIO should have a more direct role in the administration of the website. The high-risk programs will be overseen by the investment review board, according to FCW.

HHS said it "will provide oversight through several mechanisms including the department-wide review board and the increased responsibilities articulated within the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act," according to the report.

The announcement comes in response to the GAO's published list of errors with the health insurance website. The rapid push to launch was followed by errors and shutdowns, and many functions did not receive CMS approval. The HHS plans to address the approval process. HHS is also working on improving the testing and scheduling procedures, according to the report.
