Healthcare incubator Matter selects 10 companies

Matter, a new health IT incubator based in Chicago, has chosen its first 10 companies, all of which are from Chicagoland, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.

Matter began taking applications in August. The selected mix of companies includes five health IT startups, three device-makers and two pharmaceutical companies. Five were physician-founded, four were founded by entrepreneurs and three were created through accelerator programs, according to the report. The company selection is "technology agnostic," according to Matter CEO Steve Collens. They include:

AltaThera Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical company focused on rare and serious diseases.

Caretree, a software company providing coordinated health records to all stakeholders in a care episode.

CancerIQ, a firm providing big data services specific to cancer.

Coeus Health, which is bringing data analytics to wellness efforts such as weight loss.

ProVazo, which offers a device for more discrete intravenous blood sampling.

Qualia Health, a software company that allows providers to create personalized health plans for patients between office visits.

Regroup Therapies, a telemedicine software company.

Resonance Medical, a hearing device company.

Sparrow Pharmaceuticals, a virtual drug developer.

TeleHealth Robotics, a cardiac telehealth robot company.

While the incubator's space won't open until early 2015, the company expects to be able to accommodate between 150 and 200 people, with each company having an average of 10 employees, according to the report.
