Health IT Investors Lobby New York State to Continue Funding for Statewide HIE

More than 30 health IT investors and entrepreneurs in New York have written a letter to state legislators, urging them to support Gov. Andrew Cuomo's (D) $65 million in proposed funding for the Statewide Health Information Network of New York.

The majority of the funding would go toward helping SHIN-NY to connect the 10 regional HIEs throughout the state, improving information exchange and making the HIE participation more attractive to the state's providers.

"By funding SHIN-NY, New York has the opportunity to lead the nation as the first large state to implement a statewide health information exchange that is not tethered to specific healthcare providers," according to the letter.

Additionally, SHIN-NY has the potential to create more than 1,500 jobs across the state in the next five years, according to the letter, and will attract more health IT companies and investors to New York.
