Harvard to offer master's degree in health-focused data science

Boston-based Harvard University has approved three new master's programs focused on data sciences, including a master of biomedical informatics degree at Harvard Medical School and a master of science in health data science degree at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The implementation of the new master's programs is part of Harvard's new Data Science Initiative, which aims to bring together data science efforts across the university and encourage collaboration in research and teaching.

The initiative has also launched the Data Science Postdoctoral Fellowship program as well as the Data Science Initiative Competitive Research Fund.

"The ability to apply the power of new analytics and new methodologies in revolutionary ways makes this the era of data science and Harvard faculty have been at the forefront of this emerging field," said Harvard Vice Provost for Research Rick McCullough.

The health data science master's degree programs will launch this year.
