Hackers Suspected in Breach of 24,000 Utah Medicaid Files

The Utah Health Department has announced a data breach, believed to be the work of Eastern European hackers, which exposed 24,000 U.S. Medicaid files.

The exact number of individuals affected is unknown since each file could contain information on more than one individual. Typically, Medicaid files include client names, addresses, Social Security numbers, tax identification numbers and other personal information.

The Utah Health Department of Technology Services had recently moved the breached files to a new server, which they believe left the files vulnerable to hackers from Eastern Europe. The server has since been shut down and DTS is reviewing every server in the state, according to the report.
