Great Lakes Health Connect invests $250k in Flint area hospitals

A health information exchange in Michigan has invested $250,000 to link the electronic health records of the people in Flint, Mich., where high levels of lead have been found in the water, reports ABC12.

Great Lakes Health Connect, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., plans to augment the health IT infrastructure to enable real-time data sharing. The money will fund an analytics engine, hiring somebody to coordinate the initiative and training physicians on the HIE, according to the report.

The HIE is collaborating with the Greater Flint Health Coalition and local hospitals and health providers in the community on this project.
