Georgia HIE grows 450% in 6 months

The past six months have demonstrated considerable growth for the Georgia Regional Academic Community Health Information Exchange, an HIE connecting 11 facilities in the state.

In that time, the HIE — founded by Cerner, Augusta-based Georgia Regents Health System and Macon, Ga.-based Navicent Health — has seen the number of data sources providing information grow 450 percent.

Additionally, system usage of GRAChIE grew 250 percent in the past six months.

"HIEs are most needed in rural areas around the country," said Tara Cramer, executive director of GRAChIE System. "Here in Georgia, seventy miles is a very common commute for a patient in one health system. Now, no matter where the patient is, their medical records are at the provider's fingertips."
