Computer theft prompts Self Regional Healthcare to notify patients of data breach

 

Greenwood, S.C.-based Self Regional Healthcare is notifying patients after a laptop was stolen from one of its facilities.

Two intruders broke into the facility Sunday, May 25. Both have been arrested. One of the thieves admitted to stealing the laptop and said he destroyed it and threw the laptop into a lake.

Potentially compromised information includes names, Social Security numbers, physician names, insurance policy numbers, diagnoses and financial account information. Self Regional is unaware of any attempted or actual misuse of protected health information.
