Cleveland Clinic, IBM enter 5-year partnership

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Cleveland Clinic will expand the use of IBM's secured cloud, mobile technologies and cognitive computing services across its clinical and administrative operations, thanks to a five-year agreement between the two organizations.

IBM will expand the clinic's health IT capabilities, with an emphasis on leveraging its software to enable data analysis of EHRs, administrative claims and social determinants of health. Cleveland Clinic's ultimate goal is to use this information for better personalized clinical care and broader population health initiatives.

Cleveland Clinic and IBM have worked together on various projects in recent years. In 2014, Cleveland Clinic piloted Watson for Genomics to assist in the clinic's cancer research, and in 2013, IBM Research began developing a Watson EMR assistant to assist its physicians.
