Cerner is #22 on Forbes' list of most innovative companies

Cerner grabbed the 22nd spot on Forbes' annual list of the world's most innovative publicly traded companies.

The companies on the list, all with a market cap of $10 million, are ranked by what Forbes calls their "innovation premium" — the percent of a company's market value that is not accounted for in its current cash flows, representing the premium investors are placing on the stock with expectations the company will continue to launch new products and create new revenue sources.

Cerner's innovation premium was 49.6 percent, earning it a high place on the list. However, the company's placement is down from last year, when it was 13th on the list.

The top company on this year's list was Salesforce.com, with an innovation premium of 75.9 percent.
