Cedars-Sinai Health System Reaches HIMSS Analytics Stage 7

Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles has received HIMSS Analytics' Stage 7 Award, the highest level of electronic health record progress a hospital or health system can attain.

John Hoyt, executive vice president of HIMSS Analytics, praised Cedars-Sinai's advanced IT capabilities and use of technology to improve patient safety. "Cedars-Sinai is one of the most fully deployed and automated facilities we have encountered in the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 program," he said in a news release. "With all of their progress on device integration, including fully integrated smart pumps, Cedars-Sinai has approached a new level of patient safety, even among stage 7 facilities. The patient community that Cedars-Sinai serves is very lucky to have their leadership and vision in place to drive continual quality and safety through IT adoption."

Since 2005, HIMSS Analytics' EMR Adoption Model has tracked electronic medical record adoption in hospitals and health systems throughout the country. The eight-stage model cumulates with stage 7, in which paper records are no longer used. Stage 7 organizations are also able to share patient information electronically and have advanced data analytics capabilities.

Currently, only 162 U.S. hospitals have reached HIMSS' stage 7.
