California, UC schools partner to establish cybersecurity coalition

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed an executive order establishing the coalition to strengthen the state's cybersecurity efforts, including the California Cybersecurity Integratio Center and a multiagency Cyber Incident Response Team, according to The Daily Californian.

The coalition will include state agencies, the FBI and representatives from the University of California system, and will serve as the primary threat detection and prevention unit for the state, according to the report.

"The [university] supports the Governor's Executive Order to strengthen the state's defenses against cybersecurity threats," Shelly Meron, spokeswoman for UC, told The Daily Californian. "Everyone in the UC community has a role to play in ensuring the university's data is safe."

UC is still determining who will represent the university in the integration center, Ms. Meron said, but the system plans to appoint executives at each campus and within the health systems to organize cybersecurity efforts.
