California HHS, UC Davis Offer Grants for Rural California HIEs

Staff -

The California Health eQuality Program, managed by the UC Davis Institute for Population Health Improvement in Sacramento, Calif., and funded by the California Health and Human Services Agency, has announced $1 million in available grants to implement health information exchanges in rural California.

The Rural Health Information Exchange Incentive Program is designed to help physicians, clinics and hospitals develop HIEs to facilitate the exchange of health information, thereby improving care, lowering costs and meeting meaningful use standards as outlined by HHS.

"The program offers rural providers a choice of five designated HIE service providers who have been pre-screened and qualified for their ability to provide a menu of key health information exchange services, thereby allowing rural providers to procure the services that best meet their needs at a substantially subsidized rate," said Kenneth W. Kizer, MD, the director of the IPHI, in the news release.
