Apple, IBM release four iOS healthcare apps

Apple and IBM's MobileFirst for iOS initiative has branched into the healthcare industry with four new apps.

The MobileFirst initiative, which aims to spur the growth of enterprise apps for industries through the iOS platform, includes 22 apps in industries such as banking, law enforcement, travel, retail, industrial products and healthcare. The latest wave of app releases included 8 new offerings, four of which were for healthcare and the other four for industrial products, according to 9-to-5 Mac.

One app is a patient record access tool for nurses called Hospital RN, which allows nurses to use a beacon technology to identify patients by location so nurses can more easily access their records from an iPad. Another app called Hospital Lead allows nursing managers to send out push notifications that prioritize escalated tasks and assign them to a staff member.

The Hospital Tech app connects nurses to their care team so they can monitor how patient tasks are accomplished. The Home RN app allows nurses to add photos, videos and text and audio notes to a patient's record from outside the hospital, according to the report.
