American Family Care reports stolen laptops containing PHI

Birmingham, Ala.-based American Family Care, a network of urgent care clinics, is notifying patients of a data breach after two laptops containing protected health information were stolen from an employee's vehicle earlier this summer, according to a Birmingham Business Journal report.

The stolen laptops contained information related to work-related injuries, physicals and immunizations and drug screens in addition to patient names, birth dates, addresses, Social Security numbers and insurance information of a handful of AFC patients, according to the report.

American Family Care stated the information was not related to general primary or urgent care visits, and there is no evidence the information has been accessed, according to the report.
