7 new mHealth apps

The release of the following mHealth apps were announced within the past two weeks.

1. Web and mobile app designer Clearly Innovative launched an app for D.C. Health Link, the online health insurance marketplace for people and small businesses in the District called D.C. Small Biz Market. The app provides information for small business owners regarding healthcare options based on their company size and helps connect them with brokers to gain coverage.

2. Automated external defibrillator company Physio-Control developed PulsePoint, an app that crowdsources citizens trained in CPR. Nearby citizens trained in CPR receive an alert at the same time as emergency responders and can start administering CPR before responders arrive.

3. SimpleRounds, an app developed by Simple Medical Software, serves as a centralized communications platform for physicians. Some of the apps features include secure messaging between facilities, secure communication to billing staff, a task manager tool for rounds and a patient census.

4. Cleveland Clinic launched its MyEpilepsy app for iPads, helping patients and their physicians manage epilepsy. The app allows patients to keep daily records of seizure activity, manage appointments, track progress, record and provide reminders of medication and search educational information regarding the condition.

5. Position Report is an app that helps military veterans struggling with mental health conditions or other issues identify other nearby veterans dealing with similar issues and find nearby health centers, emergency care providers and other services.

6. Allianz Worldwide Care, an international health insurer, launched its MyHealth app to expedite the process of submitting medical claims. Members provide some information regarding their claim, take a picture of their medical invoices and submit it.

7. Madison-based University of Wisconsin Health's Medical and Surgical Weight Management Program developed the UW Health Bariatrics app. The app assists patients through medical weight management, offering information about medical and surgical weight loss, informational videos, weight loss tracking and information about lifestyle classes and support groups, among other features.
