7 Most Common Mobile Devices Provided to Clinicians

To improve clinicians' workflow and facilitate adoption of mobile health IT, the majority (95 percent) of healthcare organizations supply clinicians with some sort of mobile device, according to HIMSS Third Annual Mobile Technology Survey.

The most commonly issued devices include:

  • Laptops: 87 percent
  • Computers/workstations on wheels: 81 percent
  • Smartphones: 69 percent
  • Pagers: 67 percent
  • Cellular phones (not smartphones): 56 percent
  • Tablets not specifically designed for healthcare: 44 percent
  • Tablets designed for healthcare use: 43 percent

Survey results were based on responses from 170 health IT executives from a variety of healthcare organizations. About two-thirds of respondents work for hospitals or integrated delivery systems, and 14 percent for ambulatory facilities or physician practices.
