Wake Forest Baptist contract with nThrive could affect 755 employees

A contract between Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Alpharetta, Ga.-based revenue cycle management company nThrive will affect more employees than previously expected, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.

Wake Forest Baptist last month declared plans to transfer outpatient professional billing services to nThrive, effective July 1. The medical center previously said between 630 and 650 professional billing roles, including those from affiliates, would realign under nThrive's management, according to the report. However, a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the North Carolina Department of Finance, and cited by the Winston-Salem Journal, shows up to 755 employees could be affected.

Under the contract, jobs that support professional billing across Wake Forest Baptist and Cornerstone Health Care outpatient clinics and hospital outpatient departments will move to nThrive, according to the report. The employees are slated to receive similar compensation and benefits.

"The goal of the new relationship is to bring better support and state-of-the-art technology and training to our professional billing staff to ensure a quality billing experience for our patients and proper reimbursement for the quality patient- and family-centered health care Wake Forest Baptist provides," Wake Forest Baptist said in April, according to the report.
