Via BBQ and bluegrass, troubled Florida hospital raises $9k to pay for regulatory fines

The Blountstown, Fla., community rallied around Calhoun Liberty Hospital in the name of bluegrass and barbeque to help offset $45,000 the hospital owes in regulatory fines, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

The hospital was saddled with the fines earlier this year for 10 deficiencies found by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

With the help of the sheriff's office, a local grocery store and parishioners from Rivertown Community Church, the hospital was able to raise almost $9,000 from the event last Saturday. The funds were raised from food sales and donations, according to the report.

Calhoun County Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel and others from the sheriff's office started barbequing at 3 a.m. with chicken provided by Ramsey's Cost Saver, according to the report. The hospital board was joined by members of Rivertown Community Church to help set-up and serve food and Florida bluegrass band Swiftwater provided entertainment, according to the report.
