Texas hospital closes

Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton, Texas, has closed, according to the Victoria Advocate.

The financially troubled hospital significantly scaled back services in recent months and was operating as a walk-in emergency center.

In October, Gulf Coast Medical Center Chief Restructuring Officer Alan Tuft said the hospital was in the process of filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the process was moving slower than expected.

According to the Victoria Advocate, a sign on the door of Gulf Coast Medical Center directs patients to the nearest hospital, which is about 20 minutes away.
