Sutter Health Q3 operating income jumps 14.2%

Sutter Health saw its revenue and operating income increase in the third quarter of fiscal year 2015, as the Sacramento, Calif.-based health system benefitted from higher outpatient volume.

Sutter reported revenue of nearly $2.8 billion in the first quarter of FY 2015, up from revenue of $2.5 billion in the same period last year. The increase was attributable to a boost from California's provider fee program and an increase in patient service revenue.

Although Sutter's admissions grew less than 1 percent in the third quarter, its emergency room and outpatient visits both increased. Outpatient revenue made up 38 percent of the health system's total revenue in the third quarter of FY 2015, compared to 37.1 percent in the same period of last year.

The health system ended the third quarter with operating income of $96 million, up 14.2 percent from the same period a year ago.
