Survey: 50% of healthcare professionals 'not at all' familiar with MACRA

Only 9 percent of providers, healthcare administrators and medical office staff consider themselves "very familiar" with the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, according to a recent NueMD survey.

NueMD is a healthcare software as a service provider based in Marietta, Ga. For its report, the company surveyed 1,052 healthcare professionals between April 2017 and June 2017.

Here are four survey findings.

1. Fifty-six percent of respondents did not know if they are eligible for MACRA's Quality Payment Program at the time of the survey.

2. Of all respondents, 61 percent said they are unsure how MACRA will affect their practice's financial well-being. Of respondents comfortable with the law, 39 percent said it will positively affect their practice's financial stance.

3. Forty-eight percent of respondents very familiar with MACRA anticipate longer reporting times, while 26 percent expect reporting times to stay the same.

4. Twenty-eight percent of respondents familiar with MACRA reported quality of patient care will decline under the law. Comparatively, 31 percent said it will improve.
