Survey: 15M adults gained health insurance since marketplaces opened

From September 2013, which was just before the initial health insurance marketplace open enrollment period began, to March 2015, the proportion of uninsured adults ages 18 to 64 fell 7.5 percentage points to 10.1 percent, according to the Urban Institute's latest Health Reform Monitoring Survey.

By applying the 7.5 percentage point decrease to the estimated 2015 national population of nonelderly adults, the Urban Institute found 15 million people in that age category gained health insurance from September 2013 to March 2015.

In states that had expanded Medicaid by March 2015, the uninsured rate fell from 15.8 percent to 7.5 percent. In nonexpansion states, the uninsured rate fell from 20.7 percent to 14.4 percent.
