Self-pay patients may be eligible for some kind of health insurance coverage.
Linda Perryclear, Director of Field Services-RCM Client Experience, Availity (Jacksonville, Fla.): Use a tool for uninsured patients to check for coverage through Medicaid or other commercial payers. This is typically referred to as a "self pay" feature and is extremely helpful in identifying coverage for patients who were thought to be uninsured. Consider using this feature for not only uninsured patients, but for any remaining patient balance prior to sending patient statements or other correspondence.
