Proposed Louisiana budget could result in closures of clinics

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) has introduced a proposed state budget that could potentially mean the end for at least some community healthcare clinics, according to a report by The Times-Picayune.

The proposed budget does not include state funding for a network of New Orleans area health clinics that serve 57,000 people, according to the report, which means at least some of the clinics wouldn't be able to stay open.

Additionally, the Interim LSU hospital in New Orleans has also not received $87 million in additional funding that it asked the state for, according to the report. The hospital is slated to move into a new facility, and New Orleans area lawmakers have contended that the funding is necessary for the hospital to serve more patients.

Gov. Jindal has suggested rolling back 12 refundable tax credits totaling $526 million "to stave off the crushing cuts," according to the report.
