New tool lets patients find best hospitals for particular disease, procedure or specialty: 5 things to know

XpertDox has launched a hospital finder search functionality tool.

Here are five things to know about the tool.

1. XpertDox, a website focused on improving care of patients with rare and/or serious diseases, launched the tool that allows patients to find the best hospitals for a particular disease, procedure or specialty.

2. The company launched the tool July 1.

3. Through the tool, users may see an XpertMatch score for almost all the hospitals in the U.S. for approximately 5,500 diseases, medicines, procedures and specialties. The score is based on various criteria, such as clinical expertise, research, educational contributions, leadership role among peers and recognition as an expert. For instance, XpertDox identifies Boston Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City as the best hospitals to get care for Hashimoto's Disease.

4. XpertDox also lists the best physicians who are affiliated with the hospital and are experts in that disease.

5. In addition to XpertMatch scores, XpertDox also lists hospital performance scores.
