Moody's affirms Wyoming Medical Center's 'A3' rating

Moody's Investors Service has affirmed the "A3" rating on $19 million of revenue bonds issued on behalf of Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

The rating affirmation was supported by WMC's strong market position. WMC is the only comprehensive medical center in Natrona County, Wyoming, and serves as the primary tertiary referral center for a very large geographic region.

The rating affirmation was also supported by the hospital's improved cash balances and stable operating margins. As of June 30, WMC had 237 days cash on hand, compared to 121 days at the end of fiscal year 2009. In addition, the hospital has had an average operating margin of 4.4 percent over the last four years.

The hospital also has some challenges, which were considered for the rating affirmation, such as its location in an extremely competitive area for outpatient services.
