Minnesotans get additional time to sign up for health insurance coverage

The enrollment deadline for Minnesotans seeking coverage through Minnesota's health insurance marketplace, MNsure, has been extended, officials with MNsure announced earlier this week.

The enrollment deadline for Jan. 1 coverage is now 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 20.

The reason for the extension is to give additional time to residents who are in need of the financial assistance that MNsure offers, according to a news release.

"The best interest of the consumer is always first and foremost in our minds," MNsure CEO Scott Leitz said in the release. "We want to give Minnesotans that qualify for financial help as much time as possible to enroll in Jan. 1 coverage."

New York has also extended its enrollment deadline for Jan. 1 coverage to Dec. 20.
