Michigan Medicine expects 5.6% operating margin for FY 2017

Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine expects to record a 5.6 percent operating margin on budgeted operating revenue of $3.7 billion for University of Michigan Health System in fiscal year 2017, which ends June 30.

University of Michigan Health System includes 125 clinics, three hospitals, and the U-M Medical Group. Patient volume increased and quality outcomes improved in the clinics and hospitals in fiscal year 2017, David Spahlinger, MD, president of University of Michigan Health System and executive vice dean for clinical affairs of the U-M Medical School, told the U-M Board of Regents.

Dr. Spahlinger said the addition of four incremental operating rooms and five new inpatient rooms at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, and six new patient rooms in the newborn intensive care unit at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, improved patient access in the current fiscal year.
