Kaiser Permanente to Pay Colorado Adults to Lose Weight

Staff -
Health insurer Kaiser Permanente Colorado has started a new program, "Weigh and Win," that will pay any adult in the state from $15 to $150 to lose weight, according to an Associated Press/Washington Post report.

The stipend is paid every three months, and adults have to record their weight-loss progress at any one of several kiosks located throughout Colorado, according to the report. Roughly 8,900 Colorado residents have participated in the program since it first started in April, and the average weight loss is roughly 12 pounds.

Kaiser is spending $500,000 on the program initially with the hope that other cities and healthcare groups will fund the program as it grows.
