How proposed Medicaid cuts would impact Quad Cities hospitals

Hospitals in the Quad Cities would see a significant impact to their bottom line if Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner's (R) proposed $1.5 billion cut to the state's Medicaid program go through, according to a Quad-City Times report.

If the cuts take place, UnityPoint Health-Trinity in Rock Island, Ill., would lose $6 million, while Davenport, Iowa-based Genesis Health System, which has medical center locations in Illinois, would lose $1.5 million, according to the report. Both are in the Quad Cities, a region of four counties in Northwestern Illinois and Southeastern Iowa.

UnityPoint Health President and CEO Rick Seidler told the Quad-City Times that he doesn't expect that UnityPoint Health would have to reduce its central services if the cuts are implemented.

And Ken Croken, vice president of corporate communications, marketing and advocacy for Genesis told the publication Genesis would "look for ways to deliver high-quality care in the most cost-effective way."

But both noted that the proposed cuts would have a significant impact on the organizations' operating margins.
