Highmark launches company to improve quality, cost of post-acute care

Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health has established a new company aimed at improving the quality and value of post-acute care.

The new company, HM Home and Community Services, will initially manage post-acute care for Highmark members across Pennsylvania.

Brian Holzer, MD, who oversees Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network's post-acute care operations, has been named president of HM HCS. 

"Actively managing post-hospital care with evidence-based care pathways and tools for managing utilization and outcomes will be a major step forward for patients, their families and their care teams," said Dr. Holzer.

Highmark did not diclsose how much was invested in the new company.
