HHS Projects to Spend $1.4B on HealthCare.gov

Ayla Ellison -

In light of the botched rollout of HealthCare.gov and the glitches with the system that continue to present themselves, HHS expects to spend $1.4 billion on HealthCare.gov this year, according to a Forbes report.

The government is working to overhaul HealthCare.gov, the federal health insurance exchange, which suffered a troubled launch due to glitches in the system. However, a recent report from the Government Accountability Office found 183 federal IT contracts with a value of at least $10 billion are at risk of failing.

To help address the issue, CMS is going to recruit leaders to serve in two new HealthCare.gov positions: marketplace CEO and marketplace chief technology officer.

Although it will take time to determine if the new Healthcare.gov management rolls will help solve the issues that currently plague the system, there is going to continued pressure from taxpayers whose funds are paying for not only the glitch-ridden federal exchange but also to run failing individual state exchanges, according to Forbes
