Florida Blue takes action after customers experience billing, coverage issues

Health insurance giant Florida Blue is making corrective efforts in the wake of technical problems within the company that caused billing or coverage issues, according to a WFLA report.

The problems recently came to light following a WFLA investigation. During the investigation, numerous individuals told the TV station they had experienced billing or coverage issues. Many attributed the issues to computer glitches.

Florida Blue spokeswoman Christie Hyde DeNave told WFLA the company is aware of the problems.

"We are working diligently to address some technical issues that have come up for a limited number of our members and their marketplace plans. The enrollment process relies on the converging of data from a number of independent systems from both government and private organizations. The complexity of this gathering and verifying of data has resulted in some individual members having issues," she said in a prepared statement, according to the report.

In the statement, Florida Blue goes on to outline steps it has taken to help manage the situation. Those steps include adding more staff to work with physicians and other care providers to ensure Florida Blue members have access to care, and bringing on more staff to process and manage enrollment situations.

The insurer said it "will continue to address these issues as quickly as possible."
