CMS Releases Revised Application Request for ESRD Innovation Project

CMS has issued a revised request for applications for its Comprehensive End-Stage Renal Disease Care Model.

The initiative aims to improve beneficiary health outcomes and reduce spending. CMS will partner with groups of healthcare providers and suppliers to test a new payment and care delivery model for Medicare beneficiaries with ESRD. Participating organizations will have financial accountability for delivering high-quality care and improving outcomes, according to CMS.

Under the revised request for applications, CMS has eliminated the requirement that participating nephrologists or nephrology practices must be independent entities. Additionally, large dialysis organizations now have the option to aggregate with non-LDOs.

ESRD seamless care organizations that include at least one dialysis facility owned by an LDO must submit an application and letter of intent to CMS by June 23 to be considered for the project. ESCOs with participating non-LDOs must submit the same documents by Sept. 15.
