Caliborne County Medical Center to remain open despite financial woes

Port Gibson, Miss.-based Caliborne County Medical Center will remain open despite recent financial hardships, according to MSNewsNow.

Due to the financial trouble, employees at the medical center have been receiving late paychecks and community leaders are concerned that the hospital may be forced to close.

"[The medical center] is over $3 million in debt with vendors," Evon Doss, Claiborne County NAACP president, told MSNewsNow. "The county Board of Supervisors, which owns this hospital, must step up and create a sound financial foundation that this hospital will remain open."

Mr. Doss is urging the county to bail the hospital out of debt.

Ada Ratliff, CCMC's CEO, attributed the recent delinquent paychecks to needing to refund Medicare for overpayments. She said that although paychecks have been late, they have been paid.

The hospital board of trustees has not discussed closing the hospital, according to the report.
