Butler Health profit spikes to $8.4M in Q2

Profit in the second quarter of fiscal 2015 for Butler (Pa.) Health System increased  to $8.4 million, up from $2.9 million in the same period of the prior year, thanks in part to higher net revenue.

The system saw its net operating revenues grow to $137.8 million in the quarter ended Dec. 31 2014, up from $126.4 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2014.

The increase in operating revenues was primarily driven by a higher combined hospital volume of inpatient medical surgical cases and observation cases, growth in outpatient hospital volumes and changes in payer contracts.

In the second quarter of 2015, the combined outpatient surgical volume at the hospital and the ambulatory surgical center increased 11.6 percent and the outpatient ancillary business increased 4.5 percent over the previous year's first six months. The ER volume increased 5.6 percent over the previous year.
