Brooklyn clinic to offer no-cost care to union hotel workers

Members of a hotel workers' union will soon be able to receive care at a new health center in Brooklyn, N.Y., without paying a copay or any other costs themselves, reports The New York Times.

Here are five things to know.

1. The health center, which encompasses five floors of an 11-story building, is a result of a contract between the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council union and the Hotel Association of New York. Under the current contract, effective until 2026, is a $120 million investment from the trades council's pension fund to the Brooklyn Health Center, according to the report.

2. The health center features an activity room for fitness, as well as mammography and X-ray machines, dentist offices, physical therapy equipment and a robotic pill-sorter to fill prescriptions, among other offerings, according to the report.

3. Patients at the health center will receive care at no cost. Instead, they receive a credit card as part of their union membership, which includes money for any copayments or other out-of-pocket expenses as needed, according to the report.

4. The health center is slated to open to patients early next month, reports NYT.
