The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is launching Blue Distinction Total Care, a network of care programs focused on value-based payment.
Here are five things to know about Total Care.
1. Total Care includes approximately 405 patient-focused care programs across 37 states. The network is available to national employers and their employees, accounting for nearly 13 million Blue Cross and Blue Shield members.
2. The number of BCBS members that have access to the Total Care network is expected to grow as more employers begin to participate.
3. BCBS estimates Total Care annual savings are more than $840 million when compared to traditional payment models.
4. Approximately 59,000 primary care providers and 59,000 specialty clinicians are part of the Total Care network.
5. BCBS companies are funneling more than $145 million in medical spending through these programs.
