AnMed Health using bonds, refinancing debt to pay for expansion

AnMed Health, a nonprofit health system based in Anderson, S.C., received bond funding from the South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority for its years-long expansion in the state's Upstate region.

The funding came through $102.83 million in series 2016 hospital refunding revenue bonds issued by JEDA.

The tax-exempt refunding bonds paid back a 2009 bond issue which refunded prior debt and helped retain nearly 4,000 jobs, the authority said in a news release.

AnMed Health, formerly Anderson County Hospital, has undergone a major expansion since 2001. This includes adding a rehabilitation center, women's and children's hospital, cancer treatment center and a cardiac diagnostic and rehabilitation facility, according to JEDA.

"We were delighted to be able to assist JEDA and AnMed in this refinancing. With JEDA's assistance, AnMed was able to realize true debt service savings which will assist it in its service-delivery mission," Bill Musser, bond counsel with the Columbia, S.C.-based McNair Law Firm, said in a release.
