A Golden Leaf Foundation grant could potentially breathe new life into the shuttered Yadkin Valley Community Hospital in Yadkinville, N.C., according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.
Yadkin County commissioners accepted the $448,800 "infrastructure renovation" grant on Monday, according to the report. A 20 percent county match of $112,200 is required.
YCMC abruptly closed in May 2015. At the time, Kansas City, Mo.-based HMC/CAH, leased and operated the facility.
Reopening the hospital from the beginning could cost up to $6.2 million, including costs for equipment repairs and maintenance and costs for hiring new hospital employees, Yadkin officials have said, according to the report.
"We are considering a variety of sustainable options for quality healthcare centered in Yadkinville," Yadkin County attorney Edward Powell told the Winston-Salem Journal. "The Golden Leaf grant puts us another step closer."
Kevin Austin, chairman of the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners, has indicated any future reopening would begin with a focus on an emergency department and an estimated 22 beds, according to the report.
