Staten Island will be home to New York's first integrated health campus

Recognizing that lifestyle and environment can play a huge role in chronic disease prevention and management, the New York City Economic Development Corp. unveiled plans for the city's first health-focused, mixed-use development in Staten Island: Sea View Healthy Community.

The 90-acre project, on the site of the Old Sea View Hospital campus, a former tuberculosis sanatorium, will combine medical care, health-focused retail, outdoor spaces and housing for senior and disabled populations. It will be the nation's first publicly planned and funded integrated health campus.

Following completion of the master planning process, which included a market analysis, the framework was released earlier this month by NYCEDC President Maria Torres-Springer, Staten Island Borough President James Oddo and NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Ram Raju, MD.

"We are pleased to work with the Borough President and the EDC to build a healthier Staten Island. We fully support this ambitious plan to address the needs of growing senior population and special needs children, which will supplement the care and services we deliver at NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View, our five star nursing facility on the campus," Dr. Raju said in a press release. "This ambitious plan aligns with our resident-centered approach to care for our long-term care patients, fostering a greater sense of community."

NYCEDC later this year will solicit development proposals to meet the master plan through a formal process.
