St. John's Regional Medical Center to double ER space with expansion

Oxnard, Calif.-based St. John's Regional Medical Center will double the size of its emergency department as part of a $20 million expansion project, according to the Ventra County Star.

The emergency room expansion project, expected to cost $9 million, will add nine beds and double the square footage of the ED. In addition, two safe-rooms will be added to assist psychiatric patients that are admitted to the ER. The expansion project will also establish an X-ray suite, a larger entrance and create three triage rooms in the ED.

The $20 million project will make other changes to St. John's as well. These changes include moving the neonatal intensive care unit to increase the number of rooms, adding bay beds and recliners to the neonatal ICU, increasing the number of labor and delivery rooms and establishing a new entrance for the mother and infant unit. Additionally, a neuroscience center of excellence will be established.

"As we've seen the community grow, the needs of the community have changed and so we're adjusting to keep pace," St. John's CEO Darren Lee told the Ventra County Star
