Pana Community Hospital to start $20M expansion project

Pana (Ill.) Community Hospital is set to begin its $20.1 million expansion project to make the facility more convenient, comfortable and attractive for patients and staff, according to The State Journal-Register.

The project will add 30,000 square feet to the hospital including a two-story addition that will house a new cafeteria, kitchen, lab and surgical suite. Additionally, the hospital's entrance will be renovated and a triage area will be established for the hospital's emergency department.

After the expansion, the hospital will designate three rooms for urgent care examinations. Offering the urgent care option in the hospital will lower costs for patients who would otherwise go to the emergency room for care.

The project is expected to be completed by April 2019. It will be financed through cash reserves, borrowing and a fundraising campaign.
