North Dakota medical clinic evacuated after structural issue

Grand Forks, N.D.-based Altru Main Clinic, part of Altru Health System, was evacuated Thursday after a beam in the building failed, which Altru characterized as a "major structural issue."

According to the Grand Forks Herald, about 100 patients and 100 staff members were inside when the beam failed. No one was injured, but patients and staff were evacuated, and the clinic remained closed Friday.

Patients are being redirected to other locations. All other Altru locations, like the hospital and cancer center, are safe and secure.

The Altru Main Clinic contains several departments, including cardiology, pediatrics, internal medicine and OB-GYN, as well as a pharmacy.

"A big thank you to staff for the amazing way that they worked to handle the situation and keep it safe and keep our patients cared for," Altru CEO Dave Molmen said in a video address. "I want to give a big thanks to our fire department for the work that they've done and their expertise they've given. I want to give a big thanks to our patients for sticking with us."
